Simple Marinara Sauce


  • 1tbsp olive oil
  • 1tbsp tomato puree
  • 400ml (500g) passata
  • Half an onion, peeled
  • 2 cloves of garlic, peeled and bashed lightly
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp sugar (optional)
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped fresh basil


  • Heat a medium put on a medium heat
  • Add olive oil and tomato puree and cook for 1min
  • Add the passata, salt, onion and garlic
  • Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20mins, stirring occasionally
  • Remove onion and garlic
  • Stir in sugar and basil to taste
